Aurélien Comte had a strong first race in Mexico City in his first full-time outing in the Kumho FIA TCR World Tour, after a one-off appearance in Vallelunga two years ago. The Frenchman finished fifth in his SP Compétition CUPRA, though he was running as high as third in the early stages.
“I had a good start, and I don’t know why so many guys ahead stopped on the track,” said Comte. “It was good in the beginning, but in the end after the fight with the other drivers I lost all my tyres. And then there was also some contact with Esteban (Guerrieri) near the end. I don’t really think it was fair, but it’s racing; however, it’s our first time in the World Tour with the new CUPRA, so it wasn’t too bad.
The pace of the Lynk & Co cars was too fast. I was waiting for an opportunity, but it didn’t come. We have to work to get some more race pace, but this track is quite difficult for us. We’ll stay focussed and hopefully take some good points this weekend.”
