Ehrlacher confident but cautious extending the points lead
After a strong weekend at Vila Real, winning Race 1 and scoring in Race 2 to extend his lead in the Kumho FIA TCR World Tour standings over Esteban Guerrieri, Yann Ehrlacher is happy with his progress and performance at halfway of the season.
The Frenchman could potentially have been leading the standings right from the first event in Mexico if it wasn’t for a turbo issue in the final race, which has been the only issue of his season so far.
“I’m happy to be back at the top of my game. The work we have done so far is going in the right direction,” he said.
With a 27-point lead, Ehrlacher is optimistic but cautious with ten races still to go.
“It’s always good to be in this position, as the points you score are points you don’t need to score later in the season to compensate. It’s still early, as there are still a lot of races to focus on. I feel happy because, so far, we have done the best job of all the others.
“At Vila Real we wanted to lose as few points to Esteban and Santi (Urrutia) as they were on zero kilos and we were on 30kg. We managed to extend by over ten points, so I’m happy about that. In Australia, with 40kg and three races will be tough, and especially as we join the Australian grid and they will be quick, but we have two months to prepare.”
