Lynk & Co Cyan Racing driver Yann Ehrlacher extended his lead in the Kumho FIA TCR World Tour after a competitive weekend at Monza, with the Frenchman surprised but very happy after running with the maximum compensation weight after his success the week before in Valencia.
Ehrlacher finished second in Saturday’s Race 1, and while he dropped places at the start of Race 2, he still picked up a good points haul with ninth and now leads Esteban Guerrieri by 16 points going to the next event at Vila Real.
“I’m happy. It was a good weekend!” he said. “With 40kg we didn’t expect this much, but to just try and survive from a reversed grid, but with P2 on Saturday, P9 Sunday and with four points in qualifying, I think it’s the best we could have achieved.”
“In Race 2 I played it safe, as Marco Butti was defending Esteban Guerrieri. Esteban did a fair move on me at the start, we had contact, but it was side-by-side, so it was fine I would have done the same. I was behind them and had much more pace, but they had 10km/h more on us in the straights so there was no way to overtake. I had arrived in Monza with a six-point lead, and I left with 16. Though at this stage of the season, six points or 16 points, doesn’t change. It’s still early.”
