Esteban Guerrieri lifted himself back up to second in the standings after coming through from 15th on the grid to fifth in a dramatic first race of the Kumho FIA TCR World Tour at Monza in his GOAT Racing Honda Civic.
After missing Q2 for the second time in a week, the Argentine was at a loss to explain the lack of pace, after putting last week’s qualifying issue down to compensation weight, but that wasn’t the case for today’s session.
“The last two qualifying sessions have not been the best,” said Guerrieri. “In Valencia, with 40kg it was difficult, but today this hasn’t made any sense for us yet. We’re reviewing ourselves, but probably we messed up with the set-up. I had massive oversteer, losing lap time compared to yesterday, while everyone else improved while we went backwards.”
“In the race, we had good pace,” he said. “The race was good; I managed the pace in the beginning and then tried to move forward. I could overtake Néstor (Girolami) on the last lap and finish P5. We picked up some points and it was a bit of damage limitation today.”
