WSC, promoter of the Kumho FIA TCR World Tour has introduced an exciting new challenge to make the races of the global touring car series even spicier.
In the upcoming season, the driver who clocks the fastest lap in Race 1 will be moved up by one place on the grid for Race 2, that retains the partial reversal which is a trademark of touring car competition and has been later adopted in several other motorsport categories.
Like in previous years, Qualifying will be split in Q1 and Q2; all competitors will take part in the first leg of the session, while only the twelve fastest drivers will advance to Q2.
The grid for Race 1 will be determined by the positions in the combined results of Q1 and Q2, with the fastest driver receiving the Pole Position Trophy at the end of the session during live broadcast.
On the grid for Race 2, the top ten in Qualifying will be reversed; however, the driver who has clocked the fastest lap in Race 1 will gain one place on the grid. For example, the ninth fastest qualifier who would be second on the grid, will be promoted to the pole position instead.
In those events that feature three races – Spain, Korea and the two in China – the positions on the grid for Race 3 will be determined by the sum of points scored in Qualifying, Race 1 and Race 2.
