Esteban Guerrieri’s first pole in the Kumho FIA TCR World Tour is the result of a year’s hard work at GOAT Racing, claims the Argentine driver, while TCR México regular Julio Rejón’s top ten result is a brilliant debut for him.
Guerrieri romped to pole in his GOAT Racing Honda, claiming the first Pole Position Trophy of 2025, while eighth place for Julio Rejón, ahead of four of the series’ regulars, was a great achievement for the ProRally Mothers CUPRA driver.
“The (GOAT Racing) project kicked off really late this year, so we’ve not had much preparation. We did a two-day test with a test car, but that’s it. I think we’re gathering together all the good work we did last year, because we grew more and more with the car, the understanding of the balance, so a lot of what we’ve learned last year, the consequence is this result,” said Guerrieri, adding: “Starting in a good way is very important, as when you start with scoring points, you then don’t have to catch up. We already have 15 points from qualifying, but obviously we now have to finish the weekend. This track suits us well, we’re at high altitude so the engines really suffer, but the Honda is working well, and it looks like we have good race pace as well, so let’s see what happens in the race.”
Rejón stated: "We’re normally used to endurance racing here, and not this type of tyre and this level of drivers which is really, really high, so I’m really proud of my team. We’ve taken the opportunity to enter the TCR World Tour and I’m really happy to have the opportunity to measure myself and the team against them. I have a little advantage as I’m used to this track. We’re running on a short track with a return at Turn 5, so there’s some good places to overtake there, and maybe the straight and a couple of other spots, but the drivers here are really good so I think they’ll have worked out the overtaking spots by now."
