First-time Kumho FIA TCR World Tour championship leader Esteban Guerrieri has hailed the GOAT Racing Honda Civic he drove to victory in races 2 and 3 as the best touring car he has ever driven.
Guerrieri started from pole position based on points scored during the weekend so far, and never looked back, thanking the team, and the fans at one of the series’ most spectacular events to-date.
“It was a very good race for all of us,” said Guerrieri. “This race was a special one, as I drove one of the best touring cars I remember. It was a solid race from the start; I saw Thed (Björk) pushing on the first two laps so I tried to create the gap, but also to avoid a kerb at T8 which I think cut my tyre in Race 2.
Then the safety car came, and I saw him trying to get close at the stadium section, so I had to push again. Once I got to a 1.5 second gap I could cruise to the chequered flag. Nobody wanted to give up, so it was a nice one. It’s really great this day, with this huge crowd, and one of the memories I’ll take with me and remember for a while, so thanks to everyone who made this day very special.”
