The Kumho FIA TCR World Tour and TCR México joint event is based on the two series racing together, but with separate classifications.
Three Mexican drivers - Julio and Rodrigo Rejón in the ProRally Mothers-run CUPRA Leon VZ cars #1 and #55, plus Michel Jourdain jr. in the #18 Leon VZ entered by Peralta Racing Team – are competing in the World Tour, while the rest of the locals are competing for TCR México.
In Saturday’s Race 1 they all put in impressive performance.
Julio Rejón who had been the fastest Mexican in qualifying - eighth - made a super start and jumped to second before running wide at T1. But then he managed to overtake Jourdain and ran for most of the race in fifth position before losing two places to Esteban Guerrieri and Ma Qing Hua. Jourdain and Rodrigo Rejon completed a 1-2-3 for the CUPRA Leon VZ cars.
Behind them, Carlo Zanella drove his Audi RS 3 LMS run by his family team to the 13th place and won the TCR México classification, while Juan Pablo Sierra in the Centur Silen Racing CUPRA recovered to finish behind him in 14th after a spin. The TCR México podium was completed by Franco Zanella in the Z Racing Team Audi.
