Josh Buchan emerged as the best of the TCR Australia contingent who join the World Tour field and secured the TCR Australia Cup awarded in the event.
At the wheel of his HMO Customer Racing Hyundai Elantra N, Buchan proved to be competitive from the beginning. He posted an impressive fourth fastest lap in Qualifying and the finished fourth and fifth in the two races, fighting on equal terms with the top World Tour drivers.
He will now rejoin the field again in South Korea and Macau.
“It’s fantastic, an amazing opportunity to race with these guys. They are the best touring car drivers in the world, to be competitive and not just here to make up the numbers feels really good. The last couple of years fighting for the TCR Australia title was so stressful. Here I didn’t have to think about a championship, I could just enjoy the racing, go wheel-to-wheel, and help my Hyundai friends where I can. We’ll do the rest of the World Tour season now. Next up is Korea, so it’s very appropriate that the journey continues there,” Buchan said.
Other local competitors who performed well were TCR newcomers Cody Burcher and Ryan MacMillan. Burcher drove his Ashley Seward Motorsport Lynk & Co to ninth in Race 1, finishing ahead of the future Race 2 winner, while Buchan's young teammate MacMillan was 12th in Race 2.
