Two weeks after the event in Interlagos, the Kumho FIA TCR World Tour and TCR South America join again for another couple of races at the Autódromo Victor Borrat Fabini in El Pinar, located some 30 kilometres North-East of Uruguay's capital city Montevideo.
Norbert Michelisz (BRC Hyundai Squadra Corse, Hyundai Elantra N) defends the first place in the standings that he has retained thanks to an authoritative victory in Interlagos' Race 2. Fifteen points behind Michelisz, Esteban Guerrieri (GOAT Racing, Honda Civic Type R FL5), the winner of the first race in Brazil, has moved up into second position breaking into the title fight. The leading pair is followed by Lynk & Co Cyan Racing teammates Thed Björk and Yann Ehrlacher who are 37 and 40 points behind Michelisz respectively.
However, the man to beat will be the local hero Santiago Urrutia, in another Lynk & Co car, who last year set the pole position and dominated the first race in front of his home crowd.
In TCR South America, Raphael Reis (W2 Pro GP, CUPRA Leon VZ) has taken the lead of the standings after Interlagos, by just one point ahead of the previous leader Juan Ángel Rosso (Paladini Racing, Toyota Corolla). Pedro Cardoso (PMO Racing, Peugeot 308) follows the pair with a gap of 16 points to Reis, while his teammate Rafael Suzuki has climbed to fourth thanks to his double victory in Brazil.
Besides Urrutia, the patrol of the local drivers is formed by Squadra Martino teammates Juan Manuel Casella and Enrique Maglione in Honda Civic FL5 and FK7 cars respectively; they will be joined by Carlos Silva who makes his debut in the championship at the wheel of the second Corolla car run by Paladini Racing alongside Juan Ángel Rosso.
