Manuel Fernandes jr. joins SP Compétition for Vila Real
Manuel Fernandes jr. will join SP Compétition for the Kumho FIA TCR World Tour event in Vila Real, his hometown, on July 4/6.
The Portuguese youngster will be at the wheel of a third CUPRA Leon VZ car run by the French team, alongside regular drivers Aurélien Comte and John Filippi.
“It’s a dream come true to be on the same grid with the best touring car drivers in the world!” said Fernandes who has already tested the CUPRA twice at Barcelona during the winter.
“To ensure a good car, we contacted SP, who were incredibly attentive. During the test I loved the team structure. It’s a very welcoming family team with great professionalism and is also fantastic to joining Comte and Filippi, two excellent drivers who will help me grow,” Fernandes added.
“Representing the colours of your country is amazing, and it becomes even more special when you race in your hometown. Vila Real is one of the best street circuits in the world, with enthusiastic fans and parties throughout the whole weekend. For those who love racing and celebration, there’s nothing better! I invite the fans to come and experience one of the best racing weekends in the world.”
About his expectations, Fernandes said: “My goal is to do my best and try to be on the radar of teams looking for new drivers, so that in the future I can join the TCR World Tour for a full season.”
