Mikhail Simonov will make his Kumho FIA TCR World Tour debut around the streets of Macau in a fourth CUPRA Leon VZ run by SP Compétition.
The 24-year-old has won three races and taken three more podiums with the team in TCR championships this year, competing in TCR Europe and TCR Italy, and is a two-time champion in his national series. Simonov will make the step up to the TCR World Tour at one of the world’s most challenging circuits.
“This is the first street race of my life, and my first time in the TCR World Tour, so I’m very excited,” said Simonov.
“I don’t know the track, but I’ve watched a lot of onboards and races, and so for me it’ll be challenging race. My target is just to finish, as I know at Macau you need to stay focussed and concentrate at every corner. It’s been my dream to race in the World Tour. I have just two 30-minute practices to learn the track, so for me it’ll be important to focus on finding a good set-up to be fast on the straights.”
“I’m very happy that Mikhail is joining us for the TCR World Tour season finale. He has already proven in both TCR Europe and TCR Italy that he is a very fast driver. Macau is a truly unique and challenging circuit. It will be his first experience racing on a street circuit. I can’t wait to see him there!” said team principal Sylvain Pussier.
