ALM Motorsport’s Sten-Dorian Piirimägi is looking forward to tomorrow’s Race 2, where he’ll start on the front row of the reversed grid following a strong qualifying performance today.
The Estonian qualified as the best-placed of the TCR Spain competitors, putting his Honda Civic ninth on the grid, just nine-tenths of a second away from pole position.
It also marks Piirimägi’s first pole position in TCR Spain this year, outqualifying title rival Viktor Andersson, who will start behind him in 11th place for the first two races.
“We’ve been making good steps in terms of performance, and I’ve been working hard on my driving as well,”said Piirimägi. “I’ve also been getting used to the new layout; it’s a shame we don’t have the old sector two, but it’s a different kind of challenge with the new ‘S’ chicane that we have. Of course, our focus will primarily be on TCR Spain, as that’s where we can make a difference, but I won’t bow down to anyone, so I’ll be racing hard and fair with anyone who’s around me. I don’t want to take any risks against the World Tour guys, though, and I don’t want to get in their way either. I’ll try to maximise our points in TCR Spain but also have a bit of fun with the tough guys out there.”
