Néstor Girolami, 1st: “We turned around a situation where we were not really good yesterday, and I knew today the start was the most important moment of the race. I had a good start and overtook Guerrieri, then it was a question of where to take Fernández. In the first two to three laps you have the peak of the tyres, so I needed to use it. I was far from Filippi but I saw that corner was very good for my car and so I took the inside, and he didn’t close the line which was fair from him. I then created a gap, which was very helpful as at the end it started to come down. I’d been controlling the tyres for a bit, but at the end of the race not so much. This win is for all the mechanics and engineers, this is dedicated to them, they were working past midnight on the car last night, so it’s great to give something back.”
Ruben Volt, 2nd: “Finally, everything came together. We were confident we had the speed against the world’s best. I messed up the start, so I just thought to myself if there was any chance to finish on the podium or even win, I just have to send it, there’s nothing else to do. I didn’t know Girolami’s tyre situation as he led most of the race, and my tyres were starting to go away, so it was tough, but it was fun.”
Yann Ehrlacher, 3rd: “I’m happy. This is where we should be with the pace we have since Mexico, unfortunately a DNF cost us big there, but I’m happy to show we have the pace, so I’m happy and I’ll now try to focus on the last race. Fighting with the other guys was good, and to learn a little bit more about managing the tyres here. We managed the start very well and tried to stay out of trouble until the end.”
