Thed Björk: “That was a good pace. Mikel went on the dirt, left the door opened on the inside a little bit and I took it. With the surface on this track, it was so difficult to keep the grip, so my goal today was to not make a mistake and keep it on the line and that paid off. It’s fantastic to win, I took pole position when I was here 24 years ago, I led the whole race except for the last lap when I had an engine issue, so it’s like a comeback!”
Norbert Michelisz: “It wasn’t easy. My start was not good, I think because of the dirty line and lost a position. Then it was tough in the first lap, but I managed to keep third.
From that moment the car started to come alive, I felt much more competitive from lap three, and then it was intense towards the end. I have the feeling that the blue cars are more competitive than yesterday, so I expect a tough race two.”
Mikel Azcona: “My front rollbar was broken from about half-way through the race, and the car was really difficult to drive. I tried to defend against Björk, but his pace was strong. Thinking of the championship I didn’t defend too much against him as I wanted to make sure I finished. It’s really tight in the championship, and I’m happy to be in the fight for the title. I would be more happy if I finished P2 as I still had the pace, but we had team orders and I let Norbi by.”
