Viktor Andersson took a career-best qualifying result in the Kumho FIA TCR World Tour by qualifying in sixth, one better than he went last year, and was the clear leader in the ETS Guest Star Trophy class.
While Andersson was driving the CUPRA Leon VZ with which he is very familiar with in TCR Spain and TCR Europe, this was his first time racing with the SP Compétition team. The Swedish driver qualified just behind his experienced teammate Aurélien Comte, and so the two CUPRA cars will lead off row three in today’s first race.
“We’re really happy with scoring points in the qualifying,” he said. “I also really like this track a lot. We lack a bit of the pace to fight for the overall positions but being the best ETS guest driver and being close to my teammate who’s really fast is a good feeling. Let’s hope we can play the joker lap game correctly and myself and Aurélien can go forward. We start together so that opens up some possibilities, but things can happen, safety cars etc. You don’t want to give up track position, but you need to stay on it.”
