Yann Ehrlacher says his pole position at Vila Real could prove vital, with the tight street circuit one of the hardest places to pass and dedicated the pole to two of his team members.
The Cyan Racing driver led every session of the day and then the points leader took his first pole in nearly a year in his Cyan Racing-run Lynk & Co; tomorrow he will start ahead of his teammate Santiago Urrutia in the first race.
Ehrlacher took pole despite carrying 30kg of compensation weight after his high-scoring weekend two weeks’ ago at Monza.
“This is the kind of track you need to start at the front,” said Ehrlacher. “We knew it was going to be a struggle here with the weight, but to set the pole with 30kg makes me super-happy.”
Ehrlacher dedicated the pole position to two of his mechanics, one who’s missing this weekend, and the other who sadly passed away at the circuit due to a medical incident in the paddock six years ago.
“Big thanks to the team, and a quick word to my first mechanic as his wife’s giving birth in the next days; every time he misses a race we put it on pole. And this is also for my tyre guy who died here in 2019. This is for you guys!”
