Lynk & Co Cyan Racing’s Yann Ehrlacher finished third and second in two of the Kumho FIA TCR World Tour races in Mexico, before a power issue ruined his best chance of a victory, but it was a positive weekend for the Frenchman, who was faster than his teammates throughout.
Ehrlacher was able to pass Santiago Urrutia and pull away in the first race to what looked like an easy victory, until he lost the result post-race due to passing by going off track but then chased down Race 2 winner Esteban Guerrieri all the way to the finish, losing the race by just a tenth of a second.
In the third race, Ehrlacher had a slow start, which turned out was the precursor of an apparent turbo issue, and his race then fell apart.
“I think it was coming from the turbo since the start of the race,” said Ehrlacher. “I did everything right and I could not reach what I wanted from the turbo. Then at the beginning of the race it was a bit weak, and then after the safety car it just dropped big time in power, I probably lost half of the power. We just about made it to the end to score a few points.”
Ehrlacher however is happy about the weekend as a whole, where he was the fastest of the four Lynk & Co drivers throughout the event.
“It’s a big shame because I think we were dominant this weekend, we should have gone away from here with a pole and three wins maybe, as I was so quick compared to my teammates,” said Ehrlacher. “The positives I take away is I’ve taken some time to try and get the pace from the car, and I’ve prepared this winter for the season harder than I’ve ever done, and I’m happy the pace this weekend has shown what I’m able capable of this year and I think I’m back at my best level again.”
